I love Maine island weddings and this North Haven Maine Island wedding was no exception. There is just nothing like taking a little ferry from the mainland, passing loads of lobster boats picking up their traps, hearing only the noise of the boat itself, occasionally getting a glimpse of a porpoise or seal, smelling that salty island air, and then dropping anchor at the island and seeing the few cars waiting for their guests arrival. Buoys everywhere. Old and new lobster traps. Boats with names like “Rainy Day Fund” docked at the marina and little dingy’s making their way out to big sailboats. It’s pure magic. And that’s just getting there.
Once on North Haven, we drove down a long windy road to Wooster Farm which was once owned by artist Frank W. Benson. The little farmhouse is just adorable with it’s massive fire places, original wallpaper, and the one chimney stack in the middle of the house. Just across from the house at the field that overlooked the ocean is where Rebecca and Pete would say their I dos. Lobster boats bringing tables for the tented reception came to the closest dock and unloaded just hours before the ceremony was supposed to start. It was all hands on deck but it was also so calm and peaceful.
The couple had to pivot their wedding location when covid happened from the mainland to this island, one which Rebecca and Pete spent many of their days vacationing on. Most of their guests stayed on the island and road the island’s school bus to the ceremony from their different rental houses around the island. Cocktail hour was behind the ceremony spot, situated in an old barn with modern tall glass doors. Their guests, of course, enjoyed much seafood while waiting for the tented reception. Simple decor just added to the beauty of the island. Vintage glass buoys marked the tables and each guests name was calligraphed on a piece of sea glass.
We managed to sneak away for a couple minutes to make it down to the coast line to get some drone shots of R&P on the iconic Maine coast line. And then they went back to their party to dance away the night with their guests. I just loved photographing this quaint North Haven Maine island wedding!
