Living in A Loft

It’s always been my dream to live in a loft. Before we moved to Minneapolis I was dead set on living in the Warehouse District. But after hours and hours of searching we found out that almost all the lofts available wouldn’t let you have big dogs. We didn’t have our #LanaBigLady yet so David told me it was either a dog or a loft. And you can see how I answered that.

To this day I dream about living in a loft, with big windows, tall ceilings, tons of natural light, exposed ducting, a goregous view, and a small balcony where I grow my herbs. But David deems a loft as a “bad investment” (I disagree…as always) and he has told me numerous times he wouldn’t walk the dog when it’s below zero so she can go to the bathroom. I’m sure she could be litter box trained…

So anyways, part of my loft dream has come to life. I have a loft. I don’t live in it. But I work in it!

1330 Quincy St NE

The hunt for a studio started last year. With the cost of commercial space in Minneapolis and St Paul it wasn’t something I thought would happen. But I stumbled across an old ad about a little tiny studio on Quincy St. in Northeast Minneapolis. It was only about 2 miles from my house and so I thought that this might work. Housed in the Architectural Antiques building, the second floor studio has much to love. The building is shared by several other artists and photographers and is a yearly participant in Minneapolis’s Art-A-Whirl event.

Although the ad was 2 years old it just happened that the current tenant needed a studio mate for a few months. So, I signed a sublease. This year, my studio mate moved and so it left me with this little space to do with it what I wanted.

I’m so happy to have found the perfect studio mate in Jennae of Blush & Whim wedding planning. We have already had a blast working together in our little space.

Le Petite Studio

It’s so exciting to have a photography studio to call my own with loads of natural light all day, blank white walls, and pops color compliments of the plants all around. Ah, I could just stay there all day.

Some might say the space is too little, but really, it is everything I need in a studio. Enough space for working on my client’s photographs, meeting with all of my lovely Minneapolis and St Paul wedding photography clients, and some space to do studio portraits when necessary. So, although it’s small, I think it’s perfect.

I want to say a huge thank you to the hubs who painted, hung the shelves, made multiple trips to get materials, and then made a 10′ work space for me and Jennae.

If you’re ever in the neighborhood stop on in and say “hi!” And if you are looking for a photographer let’s sit and chat in my new space. I would love to have you over!
