Need A Vacation

My brain doesn’t ever really turn off. I’m always thinking about something but I guess that may be normal for most women. These past fall months were crazy busy with work, church, the holidays, telling everyone we’re adopting, and starting the adoption process. Once December hit, I was fried. I begged David to take me on a relaxing vacation where we didn’t plan anything except to lay by a pool and read. And, man, Arizona was just the perfect the place for that.

Day 1 Exploring

Our first day in Arizona we decided to spend it exploring Phoenix. We woke up at 9, read our Bibles, and then ate breakfast at Matt’s Big Breakfast at 11– which by the way is fantastic! We then grabbed the camera and walked around small downtown Phoenix.

We ventured out to a few antique stores where we ended up buying Baby a winter hat. In 80 degree weather. The irony. We also found this awesome place called the Duce. It’s the oddest combination of everything you’ve ever seen. It’s like a restaurant/bar/store/boxing club/karaoke place with ping-pong, corn hole, and shuffle board inside. It was the greatest! I’d totally rent that place out for my wedding (And this Minneapolis wedding photographer would love to go back… hint hint.)

Being only halfway through our first day, we ventured to a little boutique called GreenHaus. There we were told about “Third Friday” that happens in Phoenix. Simply stated, a bunch of the boutiques and art galleries open up late at night, offer you wine, and let you view their galleries for free. It was the best! At one of the boutiques we got a bunch of old family snapshots; they’re such great inspiration and I can’t wait to put them up in the perfect place. Everyone knew we were tourists because we were wearing shorts and tank tops while everyone else was in sweaters and jeans. Haha!

During the trip, since it was kind of our anniversary getaway, David gave me a letter each day that he had written earlier in the month. He sure is a hopeless romantic I tell ya. 🙂

Awesome Photo Spots

I’m so jealous of the photographers who get to live in Arizona! There’s an endless amount of fantastic backdrops to shoot against plus the 300 days of sunshine means you rarely, if ever, have to cancel shoots.
